I will be moving at the end of May from Astoria to hopefully somewhere in Upper Manhattan. Having worked with a broker to find my current place when I first moved here, I know the troubles. My roommate and I ended finding a nice place in our price range with our broker, but it was a grueling experience. Now that I plan on moving I am hesitant on finding a place through craigslist. I'm also hesitant about finding a place through a broker, especially brokers that are offering "no fee" apts. I am one who does extensive amounts of research, especially for something like finding a new apt, and I am finding that almost every broker or realty office specializing in Upper Manhattan apts has terrible reviews across the board. Is this something I should expect no matter what? What are some of your experiences with finding a "no fee" apt through a broker?
