Geez, why is everyone so hung-up on Manhattan? I would LOVE to live in the city, but if I can't afford it, I'll look in the other 4 Boroughs. NYC is a big city, people need to realize that. There is much more to New York than Manhattan. To me it seems like most people move to New York to do the tourist gig.

i have been living in downtown brooklyn for the last two years. my one bedroom apartment is $1250 a month, it takes me 20 min to get to the city on the 'F' line. me and my wife, do spent at least three or four nights of the week eating out and even if we cook, we at least walk out to a bar for drinks. i am making $60,000. well, living in the city is crazy, expensive and overrated. look around, there are many other neighborhoods in NY much better and nicer than manhattan.

Jeez, Look in lower east harlem around lexington ave. The low 100s. There is a bunch of apartments for UNDER $1500. I'm a real estate agent and I just rented out TWO one-bedrooms, high ceilings, totally renovated with separate kitchens for $1100 EACH. I posted them myself on Craigslist and rented them in 2 days! The trick is being the first qualified person to make an application. As for going out, theres a book called the cheap bastar*s guide to nyc. get it! Also go to the west side movie theatre on broadway and 85th. they hand out free screening passes ( I saw chuck and larry a week before it came out) . They put you on a mailing list if you ask. You can take a guest too! My coworkers love me now! There are a ton of bars that have happy hour in nyc, with 25 cent wings and $7 pitchers. Look into it! good luck!

SilkCity, by any chance are you OmegaNYC??

Shammond is a hack. Dont believe what real estate agents post on these forums, they only want money. They dont care about your personal safety. But his ideas about getting the book and going out for cheap sounds good.
