I agree about the transportation issue near the Gateway Center. The metro north stop is LITERALLY 30 feet from the Gateway center, but they didn't have the foresight to build an exit near the gateway center. Although the Metro North train stops at 153rd, you have to walk through a raised structure, then a long walkway that lets you out at 157th Street, then turn around and backtrack down River Ave or 153rd street. Either way, its a walk. A lot of people shop there, then take a cab to the train with all their stuff.
As well, when it was designed, the planners seemed to severely under-estimate the number of people who would walk to the Gateway center. The walkway from the street to the stores is so small that 2 shopping carts or two strollers cannot pass by one another. They are working on fixing this however. As well, there is TONS of parking, and only about 30% gets used on the busiest days. I wouldn't be surprised if they started offering monthly parking here as well.
