I don't have favorites much, but I'm a big fan of Eleven Madison Park.

If you're a budding foodie, you should explore Chowhound.

And more specifically what is your favorite place for:

Sushi -- expensive: sushi yasuda, AYCE -- yuka, everyday -- tomoe
fine dinning -- eleven madison park
steaks -- Not a big steak fan; I order chicken/fish if I'm dragged to a steak restaurant.
Italian -- babbo is supposed to be great but haven't had the patience to get a reservation
BBQ -- only been to brother jimmy's and dallas bbq. Mediocre.
Latin american -- pio pio
burgers -- shake shack
Turkish -- ali baba
anything else?[/quote]

PJ Clarke's for burgers.
For sushi, I actually love Food Emporium (the one on 68th and 3rd). I may not have very refined sushi tastes but it's inexpensive and I think really good!
Serendipity is fun for dessert
