How safe is 122nd St btw Park & Lexington in East Harlem?? (Lenox: apartments)

I am going to be relocating with a friend to 122nd St in East Harlem between Park and Lexington the end of this month. We are two spanish females in our twenties. I have heard mixed reviews about this area. Anyone from this area that can give me some facts?! How safe/unsafe is it really? I heard East Harlem is changing, but I dont know.

Not Safe.

Lots of homeless men congregate in and around that area, During the day when the city lets them out of the shelter, and in the evening waiting for the M35 to Wards Island. Stand on the corner of 125th and Lex for 10 minutes and see if you feel comfortable.

There was a triple stabbing at that corner a few months ago that had the whole area on lockdown.

2nd and 3rd Avenues aren't pretty, and Madison, Lex and Park are littered with Public Housing developments, large and small scale..

West Harlem is a little better.

The only part of east harlem that is remotely sexy is around East River Plaza @ 116th and Pleasant

I don't know about those apartments but I do some volunteer work on 116th Street between 5th and Lenox and it appears to be okay. The neighborhood seems to be different than it was years ago but there are still some panhandlers walking around asking for change day in and day out.
