Harlem safe? More specifically, 142nd street?? (Amsterdam, Lenox: school, to live in, moving to)

So I found a cheap room in Harlem--more specifically 142nd street and I'm wondering if it's safe?

I'm from Florida, and moving to NYC for school...so I don't know my way around too much.

What are the cross streets? Is it near Broadway, Amsterdam, Frederick Douglas Blvd/8th Ave?

It's 129 w 142nd St

Not so much. That is between Lenox and 7th Avenue. It can be rough over there. They have had gang issues and shoot outs in that area. It is much better to live in Harlem above 8th Avenue. I would say keep looking.
