I plan on visiting New York next month and I need help on booking an hotel room in a GOOD area around Times square. I've seen many hotels in Midtown Manatthan, upper west side, upper east side ect.. I need to enjoy my mini vacation and not be scared to be robbed as I plan to walk around . Please tell me which areas I should book my hotel in

Any of the areas are fine, really. It all depends upon the neighborhood that you want. You can even stay in Times Square, since it has some newer hotels, and is not dangerous. One caveat, however, New York is a large, complex, urban environment, and safety is pretty much assured, but one can fall victim to a pickpocket if not careful. And, extremely late at night, it's better to take a cab, or to stick to well populated streets, as some side streets can be quiet.

I would pick by hotel, amenities, and price, since Midtown, UES, and UWS are all fine.

Check out Trip Advisor for hotel recommendations; I have found that it is a good resource.
And if you are a foodie, check Chowhound.com and Yelp.com for food recommendations.
