I was born and raised in DC. I'm tired of it, so I'm moving to NYC in 2012 after I graduate from university. I'm moving to NYC because I always wanted to lived there and I still think it's the city of millions of oppurtunities and possiblities. I also kind of have to live their anyways because of my career path, I'm in the fashion industry and I want to be in the epicenter of all fashion. I want to start with a clean slate in NYC; DC is much smaller, more gossipy, clichey, and rumors and bad talk spreads around not only around DC, but also into the surrounding cities and suburbs like Arlington, Mclean, Potomac, Bethesda, Rockville, Alexandria, Fall Church, etc.

I came here after college, like millions of others. And, yes, it's for you if you want to be in the fashion biz.

Born on the interstate between Offutt Air Force Base and Omaha, Nebraska; I moved to NYC nearly fourteen years ago from Illinois for the same reason I am returning in August from Wisconsin: personal, artistic, and intellectual freedom, dignity, and growth. I am a college English/Humanities instructor, community (nonprofit) educator, poet, writer, open mic curator, and performer who decided to try the midwest again only to discover that NYC is the only place I can do the kind of work I am called to do in life and explore more opportunities for career advancement and training.

Then my friend NYC will be perfect for you. I was born and raised in NYC and I can tell you this. From NYC is where the fashion starts and its spread to the rest of the world.

New York is one of the preeminent players on the global stage with regard to fashion, so it's a good, if not extremely competitive environment, not unlike Milan or Paris.
It can be a good thing to come to Manhattan, but remember that excessive gossip tends to occur more within one's sphere of relationship, and despite the millions of people in NYC, within some spheres, it can be a small town atmosphere. So, it's not truly a function of location where one can leave such attitudes behind.
As for me, I was born and raised in Manhattan and Westchester, since we had residences in both areas. And, I have family in various parts of the Metro/Tri-State area, save for Staten Island. Thus, I tend to take for granted things that people tend to love about relocating to NYC, only because when you grow up around them, they seem to be part of a normal way of life.

Born in Brooklyn! It's true that my parents bought a house in the suburbs and kind of dragged me into exile as a teenager. But I hated suburbia right from the start, made a promise to myself that I'd come home...and I did.

I came to NY from my hometown of Boston to go to graduate school at Columbia School of Social Work.
I never intended stay because as a true Bostonian I was brought up to hate NY. That was a long, long time ago and I have been here ever since.Still happy to be here too !
