It sounds to me like this is basically kitchen v. doorman, which is kind of a no-brainer. At some point you are going to want a kitchen. A doorman is a luxury - most New Yorkers do not have one (I've always been kind of perplexed by them, myself). Go for the kitchen. A 6-minute walk to the subway is no big deal.

Oh - and I also used to live near the one with the kitchen - and I LOVE that area!
