Please no name changes for sections of Harlem. It is known as Hamilton Heights, or Sugar Hill. Hamilton Heights after Alexander Hamilton, his mansion still stands, in St. Nicholas Park at West 141st St.

You should be fine taking the subway at West 145th St and St Nicholas Ave. or West 137th St and Bway. There is a bus service that the college provides to the West 145 St station. A lot of students walk to and from the subway at the hours classes commonly end.

All of the stations around there are pretty busy and fairly safe within the timeframe you gave. Probably the least safe one is 135th and St Nick. I don't particularly like going down those steps from St. Nicholas Terrace.

The other ones (145th and Broadway, 137th and Broadway, 145th and St. Nick) are always pretty busy even late into the night. 145th and St. Nick has a precinct right in the station.

Just stay as far west as possible... I've found in Harlem it to be very true that 'west is best'.

I have the option of renting a B&B in Hamilton Heights or one in Brooklyn. The one in Brooklyn is $100 more. Is Hamilton Heights safe and convenient to Manhattan and tourist destinations? Or should I spend the extra 100 for brooklyn?
