It has come to the point where I cannot rely on my car anymore to get to and fro work to home. I work in the very eastern part of the bronx by E Fordham and Valentine, and i live in Canarsie Bk. This daily multi hour commute is killing the heck out of me. I want to take the subway but i'm not sure what the fastest way would be.. and i dont know what routes are the most conjested during early morning and late afternoon rush hour; so im not sure if it's even worth it at this point. Some have suggested i move to the bronx.. but its not really in my best interests since im also taking care of my mother at home (and MY home is in astoria- but not currently living there). If any of you have some ideas that dont revolve around moving neighborhoods i'll appreciate it. thanks.

East Fordham and Valentine is hardly the easternmost part of the Bronx. But let's go from there...

The fastest (and most direct) route to Canarsie from where you are would be the #4 train express to Union Square, then transfer to the L train. If there aren't any unusual delays...less than an hour and 15 minutes.

Sorry, meant Westerly but thanks for the input.

I don't see how you could imagine driving that far as a daily commute.

Yeah, L train to 14th St Union Square and either 4 or 5 express to the BX. Not a pretty commute by train or car really. Consider moving if the job is worth it.

My sympathies.
I commuted from Brooklyn to The Bronx( 2 trains and a bus each way) every day for 7 years.I finally threw in the towel and moved to The Bronx and have been wondering what took me so long to make such an obvious( or what should have been) decision.I can honestly say that moving to The Bronx was one of the smartest things I have ever done.

Meanwhile, forget the car and take the subway. It's going to be an improvement in your life. Can't imagine what a nightmare it would be driving from Carnarsie to The Bronx every day.Was it every day on the BQE ?

I think after you have done the subway for awhile you will wonder why you struggled with the car for so long.

I'll second that...and not just because I happen to work for MTA. When you first start here, you can't pick regular job assignments; you're "extra," and you can be assigned almost anywhere. Many was the time your friendly local Brooklynite found himself with an assignment that reported to Bedford Park Boulevard, or 207 Street, or Jamaica Center--all of which are on the other side of the city from where I live.

People can, and do, whine endlessly about it, but there's simply no better way to get from one end of the city to another than by subway.

This current position pays me in the six figures, so finding another job is way out of the question. I just recently put my car up on craigslist hoping to sell it and free up some change. Really have no need for it now, car insurance is just as much of a burden as fuel is. I'll take that route you suggested some time this weekend and see how efficient it is. How is it during early mornings (6 - 7am)? Thanks for the help.

you might want to take the Q44 near the bronx zoo to jamaica and take the j to broadway junction and then take the L train to canarise
