I made a post about this the other day but did not put "Binghamton" in the subject line in error.

I wanted to know peoples thoughts on Downtown Binghamton. Is there something of a revitilization going on?
With the College Suites project underway and 20 Hawley Street being approved to be turned into student housing plus the Binghamton University Downtown Center, do you think this will help revitalize the downtown area? Having about 600+ more 24/7 residents in the area would, I would assume, bring in more retail, places to eat etc...

Do you think this will trickle over to Court Street, State Street, Chenango etc..

Do you see Downtown being the future location of choice for the students of the University?

I know it is supposed to be higher in crime and there are a lot of vacant storefronts. Many on here say do not go there.
But I would think that would be a great area for students to live in.

What is everyones thoughts on this?

I think it could be a start to something nice for the city. It's good to see that they are reinvesting in Downtown Binghamton and hopefully, it will have a ripple effect on surrounding neighborhoods in a positive way.

Default Downtown Binghamton

Yes, definitely, downtown Binghamton is undergoing a major revitalization and has been doing so for several years now. I think this revitalization effort and commitment from the city administration has helped stimulate Binghamton University's considerable investment in the downtown area.

Do many see it becoming a major residential attraction for BU and BCC students? No, but certainly any major investment such as this brings more businesses, money, etc., into the area which is just great for the local economy.

Crime in downtown Binghamton? Though I don't have any recent stats, crime in the downtown area seems to have lessened. The drug dealers, while certainly visible in the area, are being pushed back into a less desirable neighborhood, which is notorious for drugs and prostitution.

The downtown Binghamton area is certainly filled with historic buildings, many of which have been revitalized and turned into loft-style residences, as well as smaller, more exclusive store fronts.

Yeah I dont think there is to much crime in "downtown" bingo anymore, it has been shoved to the Liberty St, area.
