Orangeburg/Pearl River are the best towns in my opinion in Rockland! Nanuet, New City etc... are very nice too but PR is small and there is a great sense of community. The schools are excellent (constantly getting awards) and there is a tremendous amount of pride in peoples property! Check it out & e-mail me if u have any questions!

Rockland is less expensive than Bergen County, but the property taxes are higher for the most part.
Suffern is a pretty area and convenient for commute to Manhattan by train or bus, about an hour. The drive is about 45 minutes.
Monroe is in Orange county and about 20 minutes further from Suffern, but homes are priced less than Rockland or Bergen.
Also, it can get backed up in the morning commute down the NYS Thruway from Monrie to Suffern / Mahwah area.

Okay, so I'm a little partial, having been raised there

Their motto is the Town of Friendly People, and they live up to it. The schools are excellent. There's a lot of community wide festivals (and the second largest St. Patrick's Day parade in NYS, second only to NYC!).

Lots of pretty houses and lovely little yards -- and the cutest little train station to make your commute easier (which is only about 40 mins by car). Very diverse, with tons of little stores up and down the main drag. Little to no crime -- I would move back in a heart beat if I could afford it. PR was the perfect town to grow up in.

I posted a link around here somewhere to their newspaper, The Journal News, which had a picture tour of A Day In The Life of Pearl River. It's such a sweet little, innocent town. I love it!

Ah crumbs. Now I'm homesick

If you have any questions, email me and I'll be happy to answer them for you, to the best of my ability.
I just moved to Pearl River after 15 years of living in Astoria Queens and couldn't agree with you more. Pearl River is a lovely town with lots of friendly people- not to mention an awesome Thai restaurant!

Nanuet is great. My boyfriend and his whole family grew up there and I lived there for about 2 years. We both commute into the city everyday and it took about an hour to 1 1/2 - which can be alittle taxing. This is actually the reason we moved to Jersey city - the commute...

But now that we have kids - If i had a choice on moving back to Rockland I would defnitely pick Nyack. Its a really cute little town w/ a nice main street. shops, restaurants, great view and parks!!!

Good luck - Rockland is a great place!

Check out Stony Point and Pearl River if you like small town old school communities.
