I looking through some of the pages of past threads to see if I could find an answer to this questions, but I went far back and did not see what I was looking for so I hope you all have some input...

So I have been MIA on the site for a while because we have been house hunting on Long Island AND in Orange and Dutchess Counties. Trying to figure out schools, where we can get the best house for our money. The commute to NYC is not of importance anymore becuase my husband commutes over 2 hours now anyway, so anything less is a bonus. BUT, I was looking for your opinions. The home prices have fallen in the 2 months we have been looking on Long Island. We saw the same homes over and over drop in price, but we are still skeptical to buy here right now. And if we can get off the island and get more home and land for our money, it is something worth looking into.

I have heard the good and bad on the school systems west of the hudson in Orange County (Valley Central, Pine Bush, Goshen) but how are things East of the Hudson? Any input would be great. Thanks so much!!!
