My husband’s job is relocating to New York and we are going to follow him. We live in Canada, Toronto.
I’ve read on this forum a bit and I’ve research schools on www.schooldigger.com (is a reliable website? Do you know another resource for rating schools?). We have a 2 year old daughter, but as I don’t want to move anymore, we would like to establish ourselves in a community for good, so is important to find a good school district right from beginning. 2 towns got my attention: Garden City and Bronxville.
Can you comment on?
- commuting to Manhattan
- on public schools
- acceptance to outsiders (I’m interested most in children acceptance, as we are busy folks).
Thanks you for your thoughts.

Look at GreatSchools - Public and Private School Ratings, Reviews and Parent Community and search under NY. Then, search by address and pick Westchester County, as it would be easier to commute into Manhattan from there. Rye, Pelham, Tuckahoe and Dobbs Ferry, along with many other school districts in that county might be some that you might like.
You can also google NYSED Report Cards for more school info.
Thanks for the link, but what is your opinion about these 2 cities/ villages?
I live next to Bronxville, most of the apartment areas are pretty dumpy along the Yonkers border, its quite nice in the village proper where the homes are. Pricey as hell though-think old money. Good luck.
They are similar except that GC is much larger. I know many people from both places and both towns are extremely cliquey and insular. Both are on the expensive side, Bronxville being more so.
