Goshen is an absolutely GORGEOUS village. The Town of Goshen is great as well. Nothing bad to say about it at all. Most of the surrounding towns are good from my perspective, it just depends on your needs.

Goshen does have a spectacular array of well-maintained 19th century houses of various styles ranging from Federal to Queen Anne including other historic business, religious, and (as the county seat) government buildings. There is also an historic race track with no betting. It's a beautiful village in many ways and definitely the most beautiful village immediately near to Route 17.

The school system is very good, with the majority of students consistently testing at levels 3-4 in all subjects. For more information look at, The NY State Testing and Accountability Tool (https://www.nystart.gov/publicweb/District.do?county=ORANGE&district=440601040000 - broken link). Goshen's performance, as with the schools in the surrounding area, is excellent.

Goshen is also home to some of the best restaurants in the region and its central location in the county means no place is terribly far.

The one eyesore in the village is the county building which is just plain awful, falling apart, and incongruous with the surrounding architecture. When you see it, don't be alarmed. A more functional and appropriate building is in the works.

The last issue is that there is no supermarket in the town though the drive to Chester or Middletown to access one isn't bad. Compared to the other compromises you'd have to make living in other Orange county towns, this is pretty minor. I think once you see the village you'll agree.

Yes the village is very nice, the town has lots of big horse farms. The taxes will kill you though!

This is true and they have been building a lot of homes in Goshen. A side note though is that Goshen has just in the last 2 weeks or so put out a new building moratorium stopping any new starts from happening for the next 8 months.
