Monticello is a complete waste, the village is full of crime and section 8, Broadway is disgusting. You might find some places in the sticks with Monticello mailing address (not in the village) that are ok for a good price though. Liberty is White Trash New York.

Stay away from Sullivan County. Absolutely nothing going on there. Try Orange County, as Met suggested.

What in the world are you asking, OP? town names and help - what kind of help do you need? phone info, driving directions, renting, buying, grocery stores, entertainment - etc.

As for nothing going on there, maybe that's what the OP is looking for.

When we were househunting, Monticello/Liberty and most of Sullivan County was our primary target - it's in perfect driving distance from the city for a weekend home; it's got 2 malls within reasonable driving distance, beautiful country.

If you are looking for a quiet place with beautiful scenery and little commercial activity, Sullivan County would fit the bill nicely. Monticello is to be avoided because of crime. The village of Liberty has some appealing shops and nice houses, but taxes are extremely high there. You'd be paying taxes to the town of Liberty and the village of Liberty.

Some nice places in the area to check out would be Livingston Manor, Parksville, Neversink and Grahamsville.

Rockland is a town in Sullivan County which includes Roscoe and Livingston Manor, both nice places to check out. Parts of Livingston Manor are in a flood area so be sure to check that out if you are planning to buy a house there.
