My husband is being offered a job with his company in Saratoga Springs & neither of us know anything about New York. Anything within about 45min- hour drive time of Saratoga Springs is acceptable to us as he's used to a commute like that here in Denver, CO. We have 5 year old triplets so school quality is important as well as house size (we will need room for mother-in-law soon also). Between the kids & the dogs(2) a good sized yard will be on our list as well. We are hoping to find something under $200,000. Where are some places we should look? Any areas we should avoid? TIA
Parts of the Saratoga Springs City SD like Wilton and Greenfield, Ballerina Spa, Schuylerville, Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, Shenendehowa(Clifton Park) and maybe districts like Queensbury and Niskayuna.
I live there, under 200 is tough, I would look in Corinth, Queensbury, Hadley,Lake Luzerne. These are all within 30 minutes, North of Town.
Taxes are pretty high, Warren County might be a good option North of Glens Falls. Real estate is very good for buyers right now, plenty of inventory, one look at Trulia.com will clarifie most of your questions regarding living here.

There are plenty of houses under $200k and there will be MANY more over the coming few years. I advise you to lease a place(rental rates are falling here) while grossly inflated housing prices fall to reasonable levels.
It doesn't make any sense for you to pay a grossly inflated price for a rapidly depreciating house.
