Nick - there are 6 school districts in Putnam county: Brewster, Carmel, Garrison, Haldane, Mahopac and Putnam Valley. There are no official rankings of schools that I know of, and personal opinions and words of mouths are often very subjective.
Depending on what you are looking for in a school (and different people have different needs) I would suggest checking the following: specific district websites; www.greatschools.net; (broken link) district report cards at https://www.nystart.gov/publicweb/County.do?county=PUTNAM; (broken link) and visiting the schools, meeting teachers and principals and trying to get a feel for what is it like to be a student there. Chances are - if you like the school and feel comfortable there - your child will too!
Good luck!

I can't believe no one has posted this site up here. It's a National website where ALL data (annual) is gathered (reported) to the government from EACH grade from EACH school. It is then compiled and put here on this website (I've listed it, below). I'm a Mom and my husband and I are looking in Westchester and Putnam for a house and I'm using it all the time to get comparibles!

Of COURSE you can now get the official STATS on every school! It's not just on opinons of people. This is hard core #'s and SO important!!!

The BEST part is, you can do comparisons on this site against other schools in the area! This site is an incredible resource!!! I found an amazing little town in Northern Westchester, but the taxes were so very, very high, and found, they were 180th in New York state. We pulled out of our deal in buying the house. With taxes that high, and a school that was just "so-so"...even though they advertized everywhere that they were "THE BEST SCHOOLS IN NORTHERN WESTCHESTER"....well, look at the numbers. Knowledge is power. And this site is IT.

It has everything from percentages in Math scores, reading scores, diversity stats (white, black, asian, etc.) All you have to do is punch in the City/town or zip code and State in which you are considering.
Remember this is NATIONAL RECORDED DATA, NOT OPINIONS of people!
It at least gives you a "head start" before you look at an area.

Also, people can log in and add comments to what they think about the school too (parents can rate the school) - but NUMBERS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES! Compare that, with taxes, housing costs, etc, and there you go....you decide where you want to live, people.

This is an extremely powerful tool to work with.

Hope this helps!
