What do you want to know. It is a beautiful mountain town that seems to be being taken over by city people. Because of this taxes are high, real estate growing higher. It is now a peaceful beautiful place, wildlife in your back yard. No crime. Neighbors are "down the rd". Neither Spencertown Nor Austerlitz have schools or movies or even shopping, just 1 country store with inflated prices, church post office and volunteer fire co. Snow up to your elbows for the better part of winter (sometimes fall). Temps that like to hover at 0 at night. There is a line thru the rock cut on 203, when its raining in spencertown, cross the rock cut, and it will be snowing in Austerlitz. Its a pretty small close nit community but along with that comes the knowledge EVEYONE knows your business. I called Spencertown home for 30+ years (still do actually). It depends on what your looking for whether or not these places are good for you. If you want a place to sleep that you can leave doors unlocked and feel safe about it. If your looking for convience........ things to do other then ramble around out in nature, keep looking.
