I have a small summer place up near Wurtsboro ny were my family and I have been going for years to get away from the city. I have never been to a lake or a river up there. Ive passed by the delaware river many times and a few lakes that i wouldnt go in or im supposed to go in.
So i want to try and find a place i can fish or dip my feet in? If the water is cold its ok i surf the winters in rockaway beach for years. So do i need a license to fish? anywere i can get a quick temporary one for memorial weekend?
Aslo what lakes or rivers can i goto just to get a bit wet. Thanks!

In Wurtsboro, there is a DEC parking lot at the corner of Ferguson and Shawanga Lodge Road. If you set your GPS, you should find it. It's a small parking lot but from my experience it doesn't get too crowded. Yellow blazes start at the parking lot and in about 1/4 to 1/2 mile you come to a beautiful stream and waterfall. The trail actually crosses the stream to lead to the Long Path (turquoise blazed trail). I am pretty sure you can't fish in that stream since it's state land (not sure there'd be fish anyway) but it would be a fun place to get a little wet. Not a river by any means but it's the only thing I know of right in Wurtsboro.

Here's a link to a map. If you look just north of the Wurtsboro Ridge State forest you will see a red line with a Y (y for yellow) and a P (for parking). The yellow trail starts at that parking and then leads to the Long Path. The official town might be different than Wurtsboro although Wurtsboro is certainly the biggest village around there.

I have heard of Neversink but I've never been on it. I do believe that is famous for fishing but I wouldn't know of the access points.
