Looking at making a day of the Bronx Zoo and a Yankees game later this month with my fiancee. We'll be coming in on the New Haven Line from CT, and I wanted to ask if walking from the Fordham stop to the Zoo would be reasonable/in a safe area for the two of us, or if we'd be better off to take the train further down to 125th and pick up a subway back north, to get us closer to the zoo.
1st time to the Bronx (moved to CT relatively recently), so consider me totally clueless as far as that goes.
Thanks for any help/reccomendations!
Edit: Meant to put this in NYC but failed. Mods/anybody who can move it, please feel free.
It's safe to walk. You can google maps the whole route in picture view and look at it beforehand if you want to. You'll be right by Fordham University and the Botanical Gardens.
There is an entrance to the zoo right off of Fordham Road directly across from the Botanical Gardens that's about a half a mile from the metro north station...However, I'm not sure if they are still letting people use it or not. It's the old main gate and the zoo website seems to be directing people to use the pedestrian gate at 183rd St and Southern Blvd which is a mile from the metro north station.
The zoo is awesome. You'll love it. The Botanical Gardens is pretty awesome too fyi.
