I recently drove from the Western End(Pa into NY) to the other end(MA State Line) via the thruway and it made me realize how big the state really is, having spend about 6 hours getting from one end to the next.

Anyway, giving how far places like Buffalo and Rochester are from NYC, I'm wondering if there are many adult natives who have actually never been to NYC.

There are quite a few people I know who haven't been to NYC but live upstate. I don't really get why that is though. Most schools have field trips to NYC and it's only a few hours south of where they live.

I know a lot of people from the Albany area who've never been to NYC. For many it's the cost and transportation. Others don't like big cities. Some just don't see the point.

I never had a school field trip to NYC. Heck, we didn't have field trips most of my years of school. I finally went to NYC in college with a few clubs. Sure there are some cool things to see there, but it's not for me. Waaaaaaay too many freaking people. I'd rather be surrounded by 10 million cows than 10 million people.

I'm sure many who live in the far western end of the state, would rather hop on to Rt. 90 and go to Cleveland which is closer than NYC and much easier to navigate.

Or Toronto, which is a more international and frankly closer for most WNYers city than Cleveland. That's given that a person in that part of the state has a passport or an enhanced license.

Toronto, maybe, Cleveland, no. I can count on one hand the amount of people I know from Rochester who have been to Cleveland. Virtually everybody I know has been to Toronto and NYC.

I have family in Malone who've never been to Albany. Forget NYC.

What's crazy is that I wouldn't be surprised if they have been to Montreal or Ottawa.

Why's that crazy? Montreal is like an hour and 45 away. Ottawa is 2 hours. Manhattan is over 6 hours.

And yes, my Malone family has been to Canada numerous times. They're originally from there. And yes originally before Europeans came here.
