NUAIR ALLIANCE PARTNERS WITH AERIAL-INTELLIGENCE FIRM

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — NUAIR Alliance has signed a collaboration agreement with Measure, an aerial-intelligence company.

NUAIR Alliance is short for the Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research Alliance, a Syracuse–based coalition of New York and Massachusetts aerospace and academic institutions. It is an organizational partner of CenterState CEO, the region’s primary economic-development organization.

Washington, D.C.–based Measure is a company that provides “streamlined operations and program oversight businesses need to scale their drone programs and realize the transformative benefits of aerial intelligence,” per a news release.

Measure also has offices in New York City and Huntington Beach, California, per its website.

The company is working with NUAIR to bring its commercial operations to the region in support of NUAIR’s efforts to “safely” integrate UAS into the national airspace system.

UAS is short for unmanned-aircraft system. A UAS includes a drone and equipment used to control its flight. A drone is also referred to in the industry as an unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV.

The NUAIR-Measure partnership will “enhance” commercial-support inspections, public operations, and consulting capabilities at the New York UAS test site at Griffiss International Airport, NUAIR contends.

“Measure is joining a cohort of world-class companies with capabilities that include surveillance, remote identification, UTM certification, operations center integration and control; and who are focused on developing the New York UAS test site at Griffiss International Airport into a global-use facility,” Major General Marke “Hoot” Gibson (ret), CEO of the NUAIR Alliance, said in the news release. “This region is leading the industry and attracting partners from across the globe due to investments being made by New York state. We look forward to working with Measure to deploy their industry-leading operational platforms to take our capabilities to a new level.”

UTM is short for UAS traffic management.

Measure’s software product; “specialized” data-engineering team; and “highly skilled” flight operations will help NUAIR “advance” its test site, making it “safer and easier” to operate UAS, automate data capture and workflows, and manage thousands of flights, NUAIR said.

“Across thousands of commercial flight operations in a range of industries, Measure has worked hard to perfect UAS operational procedures that maximize safety and value for our customers,” Brandon Torres Declet, co-founder and CEO of Measure, said in the NUAIR news release. “We are very excited to share [this knowledge] and offer our unique perspective with NUAIR and partner organizations to advance the further integration of UAS into the national airspace system.”

Ongoing efforts

Measure has started its work with NUAIR and will establish on-site operations in May. Measure currently provides full-service inspections, drone-data analysis, training, and software for corporate clients across a broad range of applications including power line and wind-turbine inspections.

NUAIR will support Measure with their commercial-integration efforts in Central New York, connecting them with local businesses, with a focus on utility companies looking to start UAS operations in the region. NUAIR and Measure will be working to establish relationships and facilitate business development and growth in the area, NUAIR said.

The partnership “supports and builds” on a $30 million investment Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced to develop the 50-mile flight traffic-management system between Syracuse and Griffiss International Airport in Rome.

It’s an effort to “advance the burgeoning UAS industry as part of the CNY Rising initiative,” NUAIR said.

CAYUGA HEALTH SYSTEM OFFERING ROBOTICS-ASSISTED TECHNOLOGY AT CMC

ITHACA, N.Y. — Cayuga Medical Center (CMC) has announced the addition of a robotics-assisted surgical system to its portfolio of patient offerings.

The NAVIO surgical system provides robotics assistance to surgeons with real-time imaging, CMC said in a news release.

Smith & Nephew, a medical-technology company headquartered in the United Kingdom, developed the NAVIO System.

“Real-time imaging simplifies the surgical process for patients and enables office staff to focus on patient care by eliminating the need to spend time managing payer approvals for preoperative imaging,” Dr. Martin Stallone, CEO of Cayuga Medical Center and Cayuga Health System, said in the release. “In addition, NAVIO can be easily moved from operating room to operating room to support the demand for efficiency needed by our expanding orthopedic programs.”

The NAVIO robotic-assisted application uses a surgeon-controlled, robotics-assisted hand piece, coupled with NAVIO specific cut guides. In addition, the “NAVIO planning software enables “precise, patient specific” implant alignment and ligament balance, without the need of a pre-operative CT scan, the release stated. Eliminating the dependency on pre-operative imaging allows the surgeon to plan for either a partial or total knee procedure at the time of surgery.
