Need help from any New Yorker (Buffalo, Rochester: apartments, renters, daycares)

Hello all,
My wife and I are currently in the process of moving to New York however we are researching which city would be safe, ( we have little ones), pretty decent in rental price, fairly close to jobs and shopping centers. She is from Elmira however we do not want to live there. Were thinking maybe starting at 700 - 900 a month and that's because we will just be starting out. We wouldn't mind a large 1 bedroom or 2 bedroom. We have been leaning toward s Albany, Syracuse or Binghamton. Any suggestions? If anyone has any advise for making this move, feel free to share. Thanks so much.

Yes...Anything else? What about employment?

Basically, around shopping areas (if possible), by a bus line, safe for smaller children, reasonable rent since we will be just moving there, pool, cover parking or garage. Reasonable rent....

Sorry I said reasonable rent twice......I've been finding some apartment in Albany pretty fair for rent but Idk how the area is. As for employment, customer service preferable medical or management but I will be thankful for what GOD blesses us with.
