Andes is another one of those quaint little, artsy-fartsy towns in the Catskills along with Woodstock, Boiceville, Roxbury, Franklin and a few others. The whole town looked like it was being repaved and renovated so it seems to be on the economic upswing. I think I'll hit Boiceville on my next trip.

I came to a screeching halt when I saw this scene on Rt. 28 on the way to Andes. It had classic written all over it.

Take one, leave one!!! These liberal, commie, homos are trying to ruin the American way of life!!!

Where??? I couldn't find any. I looked!

I love the colors which were a lot more muted in real life before I boosted the contrast.

Andes in a nutshell: Fashion next to function.

It's not all historic housing.

Andes under construction.

Nice pics. I have good memories of Andes and all the trips we took to my grandparents house when I was younger.

Great Pictures.
But I'm conflicted with the book store narrative. Where you trying for tongue in cheek humor/sarcasm or was the post just a subtle way to express you true feeling?

Which if so, in my opinion be really inappropriate.

Things like the take 1 leave 1 concept and attitude is what makes many communities around the country admirable and missed.

You always can get almost the most up to date information about Andes at

Andes Gazette | Andes New York

Including an article about a Mountain Lion sighting.

Personally like Bigfoot the Mountain Lion has moved on. Ol Bigfoot is in the Adirondacks and the Mountain Lions prefer the Poconos, too many Mercedes.

You would be surprised how big Bobcat tracks look in melted snow, and when they leap off a rock.
