Background checks for ammo purchases, 7 round magazine maximum (which is not made for rifles, AFAIK), background checks for private sales (which I'm fine with), even FEWER allowed "bad gun" features.
Don't forget the background check for ammunition purchases.
License info will be available by FOIL -- gun owners have to contact their local sheriff/county and provide compelling information as to why they wish to have their records made private.
Chester the level 1 molester can go about with his privacy protected while law-abiding permit holders can have it all aired publicly.
There's many statistics that say that violent crimes go UP when guns are outlawed. Crooks don't care about the law - they will get guns ILLEGALLY if they're outlawed. The law abiding citizens suffer.
This is really an over-reaction. Why would we think criminals who dont abide by existing laws would abide by more laws?????
If I read the legislation right, you can have a clip that can hold more than 7 rounds, you just cant load it with more than 7. So dumb if thats really the case.
Oh mister mass murderer, while you killed 40 people we're going to add on the charges of loading a clip with more than 7 rounds to the 40 counts of murder.

Bad idea, New York.
Bad idea? I have to disagree. In NY it takes a while to get a permit as is, if you didn't previously have one. That's why for years, people would make the trip from I95 in places like Atlanta and sell their stuff in the city. With the new laws in NY, it wont make a big difference. If they did this in states with lesser laws where you can buy guns in places like Wal Mart, then there would be a major issue. Everyone thinks that NY is a dangerous and violent state and city but the crime rate is consistently lower than places like Baltimore and Washington. Trust me, this won't really affect NY.
