Hi

we tried the commute from poughkeepsie to westchester in search of a good school district but had to use Rt 9 which made it over an hour! my husband's job is in poughkeepsie but we would like to live in west chester county due to the excellent schools. is there a way to avoid Rt 9?
Thanks

9 is the most direct route from Westchester to Dutchess. The train is the only other option.

Not necessary. You have the Taconic Parkway as well. Train can be a great solution, but that leaves the problem of getting from the train station to work.
One hour? Depends heavily on traffic and time of day. At rush hour, its likely longer then 1 hour. There can also be unexpected delays for construction work, bad weather or accidents.
Schools: depending on your needs, you can find good schools in northern Westchester and Putnam as well.

Thanks Oberon_1. Could you please tell me which school districts in Putnam or westchester north I should consider?

In northern Westchester take a look at Croton on Hudson, Yorktown, North Salem, or Katonah-Lewisboro for example.
In Putnam county, Brewster school district is quite good and I am sure there are other good districts as well. However, I do not know about children with special needs, if that's what you are looking for.
What is the reason you chose Pleasantville?

From the Town of Pok, yes. The City, NO! Use Taconic. I drive to Valhalla/Pleasant ville 1hour each way from Red Oaks Mill area of Poughkeepsie.
