Hello! I'm a senior in high school, and I'll be moving to NY soon to attend college. I'm living in a U.S military base overseas, and I was planning to take the Drivers ED course on the base here. My question is, will I be able to easily transfer licenses and be able to drive in NY or the States in general? Will I have to follow some process like retake a written exam or fill out some paperwork? I'll occasionally be driving between NY and NJ so that's important as well.

If you will be living in NY state, then you will need a NY state driver's license. What kind of driver's license will you have when you arrive in NY?

I'll only be living NY state because I'm attending college there. I really don't know what kind of driver's license it would be considered. I'm taking the base's driving course, so I'm assuming it's an American one.

Every USA state has its own driver's license. If you will not be using a NY State license and you plan on living in NY State as a temporary resident for less than one year, then you can use an out-of-state license. If your driver's license isn't an American one then you need to get an international driver's license as well.
