How far in Seneca Falls from the lake? I see that Waterloo is further away. Also, how far away is the nearest Wal-Mart or something similar to Hammondsport? We didn't get to see much beyond the small town and a waterfront restaurant there. Do you know where the areas are to avoid in Geneva and Canandaigua? My friend lived in Auburn years ago and said it was not uncommon for them to get 8 inches a snow per day, almost daily! That's a bit much for me!

Snow doesn't always fall that way. You may not get any for days or you may get some and it is gone later that day or the next day.

I believe that the closest WalMart's are in Geneva, Hornell or Painted Post for those in Hammondsport.

I don't think there are places to avoid in Canadaigua and I know that the public housing in Geneva is on the eastern end of the city. It seems like the western half of Geneva is nicer than the eastern half.

Painted Post would be the closest - about 30 minutes

I think there may be one in Watkins Glen - between 30-40 minutes

Then a longer haul to Hornell and a touch further to Geneva

There is a KMart in Bath - 10-15 minutes

Seneca Falls is closest to Cayuga Lake which is about 10-15 minutes from most of the downtown area of Seneca Falls - still really close

Waterloo is about 10 minutes from Seneca Lake and 15-20 from Cayuga Lake

Really not talking huge distances - but worth noting if your expectation is to walk to a lake and hang out by it

My dream has always been to live in an oceanside or seaport town. Stone Harbor NJ, Newport CT, and Newport RI would be my ideal location, but unfortunately, a millionaire, I am not! The Finger Lakes are so big that it feels like you're at the ocean! Right now, the nearest Wal-Mart to us is about 15 minutes away and most restaurants we go to are 30-35 min, so I definitely don't need to be in walking distance of these places.

Well, my husband has been searching for jobs, but all there seems to be are temporary and part time positions. Is the job market that tough up there?

What kind of job is he looking for? It may also be a matter of looking into Syracuse or Rochester and commuting to either city/area from the Finger Lakes.

He is currently an electronics worker for the govt., but it doesn't have to be that exact field.

What else could he do? Just to get an idea as to where he could look.

What about a company like this one: Current Openings | Jobs : Careers : Employment : Rochester, NY: IEC Electronics : Engineering

Newark is just north of the Finger Lakes and Geneva. So, that may be an option.

I'm not sure, but perhaps this could work: https://jobs-uic.icims.com/jobs/2067...technician/job

Or this one: Biomedical Equip Technician - Rochester, NY - Indeed Mobile

Here's more: Available Job Opportunities

Electronic Systems Technician (162) - East Syracuse, NY - Indeed Mobile

Controls Technician - Ithaca, NY - Indeed Mobile

could also look into Corning Inc - that's within reach of Watkins Glen

the NYSEG/Iberdrola website is a bit clunky for job search but could be a good one to work through - as well as any of the municipal power companies
