Is there any affordable rentals? What about job availability without a degree yet? I live in Connecticut about an hour away in the Waterbury area. I spent a day there while my aunt ran a marathon and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the town, especially along the Hudson. I'm 22 and would like to be a bit closer to the city, but not necessarily in it. Stamford would be nice, but very expensive and there was just something very quaint, yet lively that I really enjoyed about Tarrytown. Would it be possible to find a job and affordable living without a degree?

Westchester County is one of the most expensive places to live...in the whole country. Many of Tarrytown's residents are either professionals or related to a professional that works in Manhattan. It would probably be very difficult to pick up and just move there without anything unless you have a large chunk of money saved. Try posting this in the Westchester County forum for more input.

Meanwhile, you could look at towns that are a bit farther up the Hudson and more reasonable: Beacon, Fishkill, Wappingers, Poughkeepsie...
