I am considering buying a seasonal home in Ellenville, using it and also renting it out. Notice that prices have dropped quite a bit from several years ago and wondering why. Reading some of the postings about Ellenville, I am worry about crime especially hearing about the location of the nearby prison. Is it worth it for me to buy this property as I am using this as a vacation home and it would defeat the purpose if I am uneasy with the community.

the prison is not the problem... the locals are - white trash town with lots of drugs... check out the stores and such.
