The great folk singer, activist and humanitarian has died at age 94. Pete lived in Beacon, overlooking the Hudson River. One of his main projects was cleaning up the Hudson and he organized the Hudson River Revival Festivals centered around the Sloop Clearwater. A major accomplishment of his was getting the GE Company to clean up the PCBs that they had poured into the Hudson. GE is still working to remedy the problem. R.I.P. Pete

When I was a kid, I heard of him but I really did not know a lot about him. I tended to associate him as a hippie with the 1960s for some reason. A little before my time I guess.
But in the last few years I have been reading about him with his work with the Hudson River. Frankly I am amazed about how much he did and how he kept going into his 90s. And from there I started researching him and his song career. Seems like he was a really nice guy.

I remember the Clearwater sailing the Hudson when I was young, it was always a big event when the pulled into Nyack. A sad loss, he proved you can have a social conscience and not be a giant a**.
