I just moved to Ithaca of New York State from Baltimore, MD.

How shall I do with my MD driver license after moving? Shall I notify Maryland MVA?

Shall I get a new driver license in my new city and state?

Thanks!

p.s.:
I don't plan to stay at Ithaca for long, perhaps just a year, and then move to another state.
I don't own a vehicle or drive now, but may need to rent a car a few months later.

I haven't had the time to go to Ithaca DMV yet. I think I will surrender my MD dl if they give me a NY dl.

I moved here a little more than 30 days ago. NY DMV seems to give only 30 days grace period for replacing my dl. I wonder if I need to present some proof of when I moved here?

If you moved to a place and rented it under your name i'd probably switch it out. If you are staying at a friends place or going to college and your MD DL is still going to be good and you have no vehicles, why change it out? Wait until you settle in after the year. Otherwise you might have to change it a 3rd time. If you are going to settle in NY even if it not Ithaca, then change out your license.

It will be one year from now that I will know which state I will move to during job hunting.
I am renting an apartment under my name, and also attending graduate school in Ithaca.
So would you recommend to change my MD licence to NY licence, or not?
