Good article that explains what Affordable Housing is and the obstacles that comes with building such housing. It can be as simple as stereotypes as to who that housing is for or a backlash against development killing the building of such housing, even if it is needed.

A very good move that could help keep younger people in the area beyond college, as this could allow employees to live, work and play in Downtown Ithaca.

Since the city is trying to get more dense and stop the suburban sprawl around it, I have a feeling projects like this will become more popular. One obstacle might be that there isn't a whole lot of vacant land within the city limits. Could be a wave of the future. There are already a couple more projects somewhat similar in the approval process now.

There is certainly potential there, but one of the big problems with the West End/Inlet Island area is traffic. The "Octopus" area (tangle of roads and bridges) has been a headache for decades. Adding more commuters to that mix has often been a negative for other potential projects on West Hill and towards T-burg.
