"Tech Valley" is the name given to the hudson valley region, because of a growing nanotechnology field in the area. Albany has the most sophisticated nanotechnology lab in the country. With nano predicted to boom in the future, could this area boom as well, and become the Silicon Valley of the east coast? Or do you see it not taking off?

It used to be "Tech Valley" when IBM was everywhere there.

Tech Valley covers essentially the I-87 corridor, with much of it centered around the Capital District portion of that corridor.

As for it being like Silicon Valley, who knows?

I've seen no effort on the part of the NYS gvt to encourage it. Without that, you've got nothing.

I don't know. There seems to be some sites out there that tries to promote the area and there is some growth in the Albany area, but who knows how much more is coming down the line. http://www.techvalley.org

Schumer is doing some work on it actually pushing for both Rochester and Albany.

There's already a bit of a relationship between Rochester and Albany in that we also have a research facility from SUNY Polytechnic right in the Rochester area. I think it would be awesome if Rochester and Albany maybe won these funds that we could split it. It just makes sense. Rochester has the research facilities and experts in optics (UofR has one of the most powerful lasers in the world) and Albany has the expertise in nanotechnology. It would make for a great relationship
