I was thinking of comppiling list of different places and expected costs before i buy home. can someone tel me what they think lowest cost of living area?

Just to generalize, I'd say that Elmira, Binghamton, Auburn and Jamestown have some decent to even nice homes for an affordable price. I think Watertown and the Glens Falls area are pretty affordable as well. It does depend on what you are looking for and your budget too. Here's a good site for the Central NY region: CNYREALTOR.COM | #1 in Syracuse real estate and homes for sale. Search over 6,000 listings.

What to you plan to do for a job?

There is a direct correlation between low housing cost and desirability of neighborhood/town/part of state etc.

It depends, as an area like Raleigh has an overall COL on par with Upstate metros, give or take. So, it may be a matter of relativity.

I don't think he means other states but within.

Like I'm between duracuse and Utica and the closer you get to the cities the cheaper it gets. The farther you get from cities the more it costs. Once you get out of driving distance costs go back down.
