hmmm, well let's see. I'm a father of 3 under the age of 6, put in about 60-70 hrs a week of hard work, so WHY would I be walking after midnight anywhere? Did you even read the OP and the reply before just pounding BS? Newburgh has got some serious problems it needs to deal with but let's face it, it's also the easy dumping ground of frustration for Hudson Valley... gotta problem, it's gotta be Newburgh. No one here is saying it's great. But there are things that the city offers that have amazing upside that you can choose to ignore.

newburgh is a complete dump... 11 Murders this year.. Thats not counting the murders of the cab driver who was found in New Windsor, and the Newburgh City resident that beat another city resident to death with a bat just outside of city limits. 11 Murders in a city of 30,000 thats a murder rate of 37 per 100,000 which is on par with places like Detroit and New Orleans.

According to these stats, it is on par with Baltimore, with Detroit, St. Louis and New Orleans being higher in terms of cities with more than 250,000 people. United States cities by crime rate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Cities like Richmond CA, Baton Rouge, Flint MI, Compton CA, Youngstown OH, Camden and Gary are about the same or worse than Newburgh in that regard. Harrisburg, Binghamton and Irvington NJ are just above 30 per 100,000. Some this can be misleading as you can have a relatively high homicide but the overall violent crime rate can be very low(i.e.-Binghamton, who's overall violent crime rate is on par with suburbs in major Western cities and lower than Grand Island Nebraska).

Yep, living in Montgomery, the farthest I'll ever go into Newburgh is the Target on 17K, other than that, no crossing over 300.

Newburgh is crazy, if you're driving by people would look in your car, there is a lot of abandon buildings. no one fixes the street, you can see real life crack heads, its worst then new jack city. The town of Newburgh which is 15 minutes or less from the city is beautiful, big town houses a lot of income based housing but the city would make Brooklyn and the Bronx look like Heaven.

Here's some pics of Newburgh I took a couple of years ago. They're mostly the central core of the city, and not very flattering. Sorry.
