Someone should do an investigation and give us a ballpark estimate as to how much Shelly's wheeling and dealing costs NY'ers in extra taxes and fees. His influence peddling is longstanding and vast. Shelly raked in cash from many players in multiple industries. The businesses that paid him off were given favorable treatment at taxpayer expense.

I'm positive the $4M they cited is only the tip of the iceberg, and wondering when we'll hear about the Swiss bank accounts.

Shelly know where a lot of political skeletons are buried (he put put more than a few in the ground himself.) If he goes down, which it looks like, he's not going to go down quietly or easily. If he wanted to, he could likely take down most of the NYC/NYS Democratic machine (which I'd love to see.)

He has already been removed from his position as speaker of the house. Federal investigators would not go after so powerful a politician unless they had substantial evidence of wrongdoing.

First Silver now Skelos. Preet indicated there will be more.

Why the sudden interest from the feds in LI corruption? They could have investigated our crooked pols 30+ years ago and busted dozens. Al D'Amato really sticks out in my mind. Too late to prosecute that guy.

New York City residents are truly pathetic when it comes to electing state and local officials. The federal level isn't that great either. Latest poster boy example of this is the unwavering support Charles Rangel has from his district. That corrupt old coot was re-elected because Harlem's black residents want that district kept "dark". This despite the growing Latino-Hispanic population and decreasing African-American.

New York State long has been known as one of the most corrupt state governments of all fifty. This goes back to Al Smith's days and before.

Once elected assembly and senate members basically have a position for life should they chose complete with taxpayer funded pension. Unless caught doing something *big* such as murdering a basket of puppies their district re-elects long as these bozos continue to dole out money via "member's items" and "Lulu's".

What gets me is NYS residents are always complaining about their tax rates but fail to see where their money is going. New York State is alone out of all fifty that allows borrowed (bonded) money to be used for "member's items" and other dole outs. Well debt has to be serviced as anyone with a mortgage, loan or credit card debt knows.

Cuomo is an idiot. Happily he is getting *very* nervous and is equally upset about the arrest of Shelly Silver and how Preet Bharara handled things. Mr. Bharara's comments basically saying look out for more to come and that NYS residents should be *upset* about their government is also giving Cuomo indigestion. Well that *could* be the fault of his girlfriend's cooking.....

Cuomo is staffing and lawyering up including hiring Preet Bharara' s former second hand man. According to published reports he is livid at not knowing PH's next move and that no one else does/will tell him either.

Go, boy go!

If that ain't the truth. We have to do all we can to ensure that none of these loathsome swines achieve national office otherwise they will end up doing to America what they've done to New York. Our federal government is corrupt enough as it is.

If anything good can come out of this, it will be the end of "Ill Duce" Cuomo's presidential aspirations. Hopefully it will also destroy Hillary's. The one who only moved to New York so she could be handed a senate seat to further her own political ambitions. I guess she could never pull that off in Arkansas. It seems that Arkansas has had enough of the Clintons. Otherwise why didn't they just stay there? You'd think that the people of New York would have taken that into consideration before electing her. Before that she never lived in, paid taxes in, or had anything to do with New York State or it's people. She used the people of New York State as a doormat plain and simple. Yet got elected anyway. All it takes is to have a (D) after your name. It's no wonder that New York State is stuck with the government they have.

I'm just hoping that Bharara starts looking into "Ill Duce" Cuomo's involvement with HUD. That ought to be interesting. Regrettably, New York's Republican Party isn't any better they have had their fair share of petty little men in big suits "Fat Nick" Spano, Joe Bruno, Al D'amato, and of course "King George" Pataki. Now Skelos. I just thank God that I don't have to live under them anymore, yet the threat remains if any of them gain national prominence. While there is political corruption in every state government at least for the most part we are pretty much free out here.

Almost forgot. Great post by the way!

Hillary Clinton and her husband are not from NYS, but rode that carpet-bagger train here because of an open senate seat. Unlike more sensible states NY does not have a very strong (or any) residence requirement to run for federal or local office. What of them there are mainly deal with living in the district one wishes to represent on a local level.

Clueless and mindless sheep that NYS voters are (those that can be bothered showing up on election day) they voted that Clinton woman into office *twice*. The second time she swore up and down she had *no* ambitions for the WH and would serve her entire term if elected. Well that was a tale just like most everything else out of a Clinton's mouth. Obama derailed the Clinton's plans for a second stay at the WH but he did make her secretary of state. That last bit at least got her out of NYS senate office so that was something anyway.
