I do.

Lived under the shadow of the B-52. They'd make there landing approach right over the farm. I swear sometimes it seemed like you could touch them.

All the fences are gone now.

Was stationed there.....F-106's on a SAC base. B-52's and KC 135's coming and going constantly.....

Except for the B-52 that was doing touch and go's, didn't accelerate quickly enough, and skidded off the end of the VERY long runway. Airframe cracked in half before they could get it shored up and decide what to do with it.

Good memories.....used to sign up for weekend and holiday duty, give them a number for the ski area north of the base. God forbid we had some sort of emergency!

My brother was stationed there during Desert Storm as an SP. I still remember when he came back with Yellow ribbons everywhere and the RFA Marching Band playing.

Rome Free Academy is now located on the base, along with a Business Park.

BTW OP, it is actually in the Utica-Rome area. Hancock AFB was an active duty base that was/is in the area. It ceased being an active duty base in 1983, but is still an ANG base, which still has a BX too.

As well as the metro area, as it employed a lot of people. There are some companies affiliated with the military/government in the Business Park, but it doesn't make up for the jobs that left when the base closed due to BRAC realignment in 1995(realignment set in 1993). Plattsburgh AFB suffered the same fate, also closing in 1995.

Here's info on the Business Park: Griffiss Business & Technology Park - Rome, NY
