Hello all, My soon to be wife and I will be married on Oct.31st and honeymooning starting Nov.1st. For starters, we do want to stay in the New York side of Niagara Falls. We have never been before. We also really enjoy outdoor activities, hiking, snowboarding/ski, etc...
I know being New York it can get pretty cold at times.

So all being said, overall is Niagara Falls a good honeymoon spot in the 1st week of November? Able to do outdoor activities, etc..

Any and all help appreciated

While it isn't in Niagara Falls, but nearby Lewiston and Youngstown may be worth checking out. Lower Niagara River Region Chamber of Commerce | Things to Do & See

It could get pretty chilly up there during the first week of November. From: Niagara Falls - Climate

Quote:
FALL: In the fall, the daily high temperatures in September, October and November range from 22° to 8° degrees Celsius (72° to 46° degrees Fahrenheit). Nightly temperatures range from 13° to 1° degrees Celsius (55° to 34° degrees Fahrenheit). It is unlikely to snow prior to the end of October. First killing frost and/or snowfall be expected by late October or early November. Mixed weather patterns prevail. Rain and cloudy skies are common.
Sounds cold, but bearable.

I visited the falls a few years back. Very nice. I realize you indicate plans to stay on the NY side. There are plenty of very nice places in NY to visit. When it comes to the falls however, the Canadian side is considerably better than the NY side.

How much time are you dealing with?

I agree the Canadian side is a better visit, but you can have a solid trip on the US side if you can't get into Canada

Will be colder, but typically not winter weather that time of year. Dress appropriately, wear layers and be mindful that some activities will get you wet if they are open

Which they may not be as it is really late in the season

It's likely that the two main attractions on the American side of the Falls, the Maid of the Mist, and the Cave of the Winds, will be closed for the season.

You can still hike around Goat Island, which will put you really close to the Upper Rapids, and you can take the trail down into gorge below the Falls to the Lower Rapids. You can explore Lewiston and Fort Niagara. There are a number of wineries in Niagara County, and they should be open ... and less crowded.

You can also drive south 20 miles and visit Buffalo which has simply gorgeous late 19th and early 20th century architecture; history, art, and science museums; a botanical garden;a professional hockey team; interesting urban neighborhoods, etc.

Niagara Falls is a wonderful and romantic place in November. The leaf colors are mostly done by this point, but some hardy oaks might still have some pretty colored leaves. But it is a beautiful time ot walk around the American side islands, as there will be very light crowds. Another poster listed it, but be aware that the first week of November brings a few closures. The Maid of Mist, the Whirlpool Jetboat and the Cave of the Winds close in late October. They may close earlier, if it gets clod early. Its about safety from ice.

I would encourage you to visit the Canadian side as well. While the portion right across from the rainbow bridge is more like the Jersey Shore or other ocean resorts, with Ripley's Believe it or Not and tourist traps, skeeball and arcades, deep fried everything and a hard rock cafe, further towards the falls it is a beautiful place and the Canadian falls view does not close in November (in fact hardly ever).

There are wonderful hiking spots close to the falls. Devil’s Hole and Whirlpool State Parks have two hiking trails that you can join to do as one nice hike. together they are about 4 miles, very moderate inclines and no real climbing required. They are nice and beautiful. Another great place is Bond Lake. Its about 20 minutes outside of Niagara in NY. Its a great state park, amazing trails. I don't think there will be enough snow the first week of November for cross country skiing or tubing, but its still worth visiting. The only skiing I have ever done up there is at Byrncliff. Its early, but it might be good in November. I would call them. There may be something in Canada too.

Have a great time.

Any reason why you wouldn't stay on the Canadian side? A weaker Canadian dollar + being offseason will get you some great rates. Also check out Niagara-on-the-Lake, it is very scenic and romantic.

The weather will be rainy to snowy, but if it's sunny it'll be enjoyable.

Default I'm a Niagaran, here's my take...

Hey Greg, Niagara Falls, Ontario is my hometown and so I'm intimately familiar with Niagara Falls on both sides of the border. I'd have to say that I don't think it's a great location for a honeymoon myself. First off, we do have the beautiful Festival of Lights in the wintertime but it normally doesn't start till mid-November so you're going to miss out on that. A lot of the activities usually running during the summer and fall will also be closed (ex. the incredible whirlpool jet rides!) While you can certainly walk through the park at the Falls (and I do suggest the Canadian side is the one you should stay on as it's a lot more scenic,) it's going to be very cold most likely down near the river and if you're from Kentucky, can't really see you finding that terribly enjoyable (I love Kentucky btw, been there 9 times!)

Honestly, I would not recommend my area for a wintertime honeymoon myself.
