As of right now Rochester looks promising. I could get a decent house with a great school district. Land, good schools and affordability out weight the need to be close to shops, etc ( walkability). I know the close you are to shops and resturants the more expensive the property. Whatever community that fits that profile should be mentioned because like I said I'm weighting out my options.

I definitely do not want a party town, a college or a high crime area. I looked at Albany for the first time today and the schools seem life they are horrible with ratings of 2 & 3. Penfeild, Pittsford, and some other Rochester areas seem like what I'm looking for. Are there any other areas, that you know of, like those anywhere else that fit that profile?

You can find areas that are affordable with good schools in any area up here, including the Albany area.

Also, in terms of employment, which area looks the most promising?

Well as of right now Rochester has a lot of openings for EMT/ Paramedic. I can live in either Webster, Brighton, Fairpirt, Mendon, Penfield or Pittsford (which are the suburbs that I think are a great fit for my family as far as low crime, great schools and location. They aren't too far from the city so I can still do things wirth my children. Pittsford is still a question because the houses are quite pricy but not in comparison to Long Island's better neighborhoods so it might still be affordable if I find the right house) and still be able to get to most locations (jobs) within 20-25 minutes which compared to here is wonderful. For instance, I can find employment in the city of Rochester and live in Webster which is further away and still be ok to travel. Macedon, Albion, Honeoye Falls, etc are just too rural.
