Has anyone filed a Petition to the Director for a trademark? I can't find anything online about doing it yourself. I don't even know where to start when I file. I don't know how to start off the letter etc.

Director?

You file for a trademark with the federal PTO (Patent and Trademark Office). Link is here:

United States Patent and Trademark Office

That link has information describing the process and how to get started.

I highly suggest you get a lawyer who is familiar with the process. It is not simple and it is very easy to get denied.

In addition to the initial registration (if granted), there are other requirements such as continuous use and re-filing at specific intervals. If you fail to do so, your registration can lapse.

FWIW, you are also required to actively defend your marks. If someone starts using your trademark you have to make them stop. This can be an expensive process, especially when the infringing party doesn't want to back down. If you don't defend your mark, you can lose it. Been there, done that - tens of thousand spent. The process sucks.

I was given points on what to write I just want to know when replying can I reply like I am writing a letter? The petition attorney gave me a few points to bring up and said to ask for my petition fee back when I file the petition.

It depends on what you are filing a petition for.

Petition to cancel is here:
https://www.uspto.gov/web/forms/newform.pdf

Seems pretty straight forward.

If your petition is to revive an abandoned mark, the attorney who gave you the points to bring up is your best source for wording the reply. These things can be tricky and often situation-dependent. Advice from strangers on the internet is likely to do more harm than good.

Petition to revive info is here:
