Do you have a broken or zapped computer from the construction on power lines?
Join a class action law suit!
I think it's a possibility. My computer died or fried, was just plugged in and on, wouldn't even turn on one day. It's abnormal, it's not like a storm.

This was late May and it's still going on today, I walk or drive by them every day, today's June 8th.

My computer was zapped (and is expensive, plus I have spent days and days and days rebuilding my business set-up, finding passwords and I have to take in my laptop for data recovery, I hope I haven't lost everything, there is a slight chance).

They're doing all this work on the power lines in Woodstock and if they're doing it here could be anywhere as well.
If you had damage to a computer or anything else and want to join a class action lawsuit, please do be in contact.
I've been inconvenienced to the max and had to turn down several jobs because I couldn't access my computer! I have found another one but..
I'll ask a lawyer if there's anything else to try to tack on, other than the cost of the computer or any data recovery or shop charges.

I suspect the power zap or when they turn it back on was illegitimate, computers just don't get zapped and not turn on like that. It wasn't Central Hudson doing the work, it is a bunch of trucks and crew called D&D which look shady. They're not the brightest people, I talked to one.

A computer that I have, relatively new, doesn't just crash out of the blue. I don't know why the power would be affected if they're working way down the street. Sounds like some sort of mistake to me.

Plus, they didn't even tell anyone to turn off electronics, they didn't announce in advance there would be work on the power lines.

Someone knocked on my door about 10 seconds before they turned the power off, that is hardly a decent warning, they should have put letters in the mail to residents beforehand!
My computer crashed a week or so later, not the day the guy knocked on my door. I don't think this D&D did something right and want to sue in small claims court.

They didn’t notify anyone via letter that work would be going
on, they should have told us in advance to unplug electronics. My computer is relatively new, I think there was an
illegitimate surge in the power.

I’m finding a lawyer, join in if you’d like for a class action, feel free to message.

Thanks!

Stop whining, if the power cut off unannounced that shouldn't damage the computer even the restoration of power is the equivalent of plugging in the laptop power supply. When a computer loses power it stays off unless you told it otherwise. Unless the power dips/surges/dips etc your equipment shouldn't be affected especially a week later as you stated.

If you run a business off your computer then ensure you have UPS to provide clean electricity and a back-up program for data (it's called a disaster recovery model). And write your passwords down somewhere....

luckytree, I'm pretty sure the City-Data (CD) Terms of Service (ToS) doesn't permit the use of its website solely for the purpose of recruiting plaintiffs in the pursuit of a class action suit.

Given your username doesn't have an established history of clearly acceptable CD participation, having other CD users participate in this thread may prevent it from getting closed, if not deleted, as a solicitation.

Besides, as long as the replies aren't a ToS violation, you're not in a position to discriminate who is or is not permitted to contribute to the thread.

Also, you will, in the least, need to have proof that your PC was damaged, how the damage was caused, and that the damage was not caused by or permitted to occur through any defect in the electrical infrastructure of your residence. Furthermore, you would need to prove the damage was a direct result of the the work being performed on the power lines.

You will need depositions from:
- a reputable PC repair professional
- an electrical inspector (not just an electrician; but an electrician certified to perform electrical inspections)
- the workers performing work at the time your PC was damaged
- an electrical engineer able to rebut the workers' deposition.

Each potential member of such a suit would need similar depositions regarding the PC damage, condition of their home electrical system, and causation by power line work.
