Do you think that NY State is a Veteran friendly state? I'm curious to hear what people say and I've wondered about this due to some of the benefits and institutions in the state.
I would say yes it is. From personal experience I feel that as a veteran I've always been treated well. Never had any problems using my education benifits. VA health care has been decent for the few times I've been to one. Also I think the VA tax exemption is a nice benefit that I can't wait to use once I buy a house (using my va home loan). Id say NY is overall a pretty veteran friendly state, maybe not the best but still pretty good.
I agree gt87 about it being veteran friendly. I do especially think the Rochester area treats veterans well. There are a lot of vets, and the culture for the most part is very respectful towards vets in our area. I know the "Honor Flight Veteran" is very, very active in our area.

......hmmm..I'd say..somewhere in the middle...Veteran wise. Definitely NOT happy with the VA ( a Fed institution, I know)..but as far as the state itself...not bad. Part of this stems from there not being a lot of more recent Veterans from this state(A documented fact) . I think it keeps much of the non-Vet public somewhat on the respectful, courteous(if unknowing) side about us Vets. Just my and my son's opinions....The state gov't itself is middle of the road on perks/breaks/benefits for Veterans.
I feel NY treats Veterans very well. NY provides people to help you file claims with the VA and advise you. In addition there are property exemptions, depending on disabilities and time spent in combat zones.
Don't know for sure about this issue in the rest of the state, but I imagine the attitude is pretty much the same. So do I as a veteran think NY is veteran friendly? Meh, not so much.
