Hi, I'm considering renting an apartment in either "The Lombardi" or "The Hammel," basically near the Metro North New Rochelle station.
The buildings are off North Ave. between Burling Lane and Lockwood Ave.
This is the address and the website of the place we like the best. It's literally .2 miles to the station. We both work in Manhattan and would commute everyday.

I am well aware of the fact that it's not the ideal, and safest location in the world, but at the same time it doesn't look too bad either, esp the 4 min walk to the train. We live in Washington Heights in Manhattan at the moment, in between the "nice" area of Hudson Heights and the "not so nice" part of Fort George (this would only make sense to someone really familiar with the area.) So we're not some out of towners who aren't used to a little bit of a rough area, so keep that in mind. We just want more affordable rent, where we can park our car and get to Manhattan with ease.
I was hoping to get some opinions on this area (downtown and the exact area I mentioned), from people who actually live in this part of New Rochelle, and maybe even from people who live in these buildings.
We spent some time looking at these apartments and they seem really nice. They are "luxury" places that are relatively new.
I just want a more objective take, not from an agent or broker, on how safe it is to come back from work every night, esp for a woman. Or how safe the area is in general.
And any other info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
