Hi all - looking for thoughts on a 2 week State park camping trip in NY - prefer to have at least electrical hook-up...have a cargo trailer we tricked out into a cute rustic camper...

Last year we did a 2 week trip which included Watkins Glen SP, Lechtworth SP, & 4 mile creek SP near Niagra Falls & had a great time...Loved the finger Lakes region!! Any must do state park campgrounds on your favorites list? Hows Thousand Islands state park area?

Prefer to hit an area that we can do more than 1 state park but also not have huge trasition travel time between spots...Thanx!!

We used to camp all over NY in state campsites. Many of them close after Labor Day and most do not have electrical hookups but you should be able to find out what you need to know here:

DEC Campgrounds - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation

Another vote for Allegany. The best time would be when it is warmer so you can take advantage of the lakes and river. Red House Area is one of the best and most underrated state parks I've been to in the US. Rivals parks in the Southern Appalachians.

Long Point State Park is another option in the summer since it is right on Chautauqua Lake. The downside is that when I went last summer the buildings were older and not maintained as well as other state parks. Clean park but old buildings. There are private campgrounds around the lake but they may slow down after Labor Day. Chautauqua is very seasonal.

Unlike the other posters, Allegany State Park was one of my least favorite parks to stay.

If you pull up the NYS map for the parks, you can get an idea of which parks will be easy to travel between.

You went to WG but in general, the parks in the Finger Lakes aren't too far from each other.

Thousand Islands region is nice. I think some of the sites (similar to the Adirondacks) are accessible by boat only if I remember correctly. Not that there isn't anywhere to stay. There is actually a guy who has a website and he goes to different parks in the Adirondacks and takes pictures of the sites. (He has a website.)
