My son just accepted a job in Cooperstown NY. He will arrive on Sunday, Feb. 5. My husband will drive from RI to Cooperstown on Sat. or Sun. They will be watching the Super Bowl together. They are desperate trying to locate a place that sells pork spiedies. My husband grew up near Binghamton, NY where spiedies are easy to find. Does anyone know of a place (between RI and Cooperstown) that has pork spiedies. We found chicken spiedies in Oneonta but they're still hoping for pork. Thanks for any help you can provide on this obviously urgent matter.

I'm sure that you can find pork spiedies in the Binghamton area, the home of the spiedie. What roads are you planning to travel along from Rhode Island to Cooperstown? My suggestion: I-84 to I-380 to I-81 to Binghamton, then I-88 to exit 17 to Cooperstown. If you're thinking of taking the NYS thruway to Rt. 28 be advised that it is a 2 lane road through the Catskills with many steep hills and sharp curves.

I know this is an older post, however....

That route from RI to Cooperstown is the long way around. Taking I-90 (Mass Pike) straight across to I-88 would save almost 200 miles and almost 3 hours of driving. I-84 is going to swing you way south to Scranton, PA. Binghamton is West of Cooperstown, adding even more drive to the trip.

Even if you were determined to make the extra trip to Binghamton for these speedies, I-90 is still the shortest and quickest and most direct route.

Rt-28 is not a factor either way.
