Economic growth ha. The Laurentian project that the County paid $300,000 of tax payer money for engineering fees was announced 11 years ago with not a single job created!!! How's that for economic development on the former base!!! Several small companies that were there have since closed. Most Landlords don't maintain their properties causing slum like conditions. The city government spent $35000 dollars for a dock which they cannot afford the $75000 fee to install so it sits at the city sewer plant parking lot!! The Police Chief takes 3 day trips to Florida that cost the residents $7000 a pop. How's that for dysfunction? And I've only touched the surface.
When you lose thousands of jobs since 1998 and create 400 to 500 I don't think that's growth do you ckhthankgod? NYS DEC detected unsafe levels of pcbs on the NY side in 1985!! YES 1985. To my knowledge nothing has ever been done about this situation. Real gem of a community lol
It isn't just the one company or project from what I've seen and from what is displayed. So, what is the deal with the other companies mentioned previously in the thread and the talk of a growing manufacturing sector from many local resources in the area?
Anyone can come on here and say anything. So, what about the information posted in the beginning of the thread is not true?
There will always be the negative ones, the ones who want to paint a very bleak picture. You can find them anywhere, bringing their "bad news" to anything you could be interested in.
Before anyone moves anywhere, I would hope they would spend some time in the area to find out for themselves.
And regarding jobs leaving Plattsburgh. I just read online today that Ford Focus factory is moving to China. Hmmm, so much for keeping jobs in the USA. I worked at Carrier in Syracuse and look at what happened there.

What is interesting about what I've seen going on in Plattsburgh is that Canadian based companies in Quebec have been investing in the area. Norsk Titanium is another foreign based company(from Norway) that is also investing in the area. Plattsburgh has a serious meth/heroin problem. The air force departure left the county without a decent tax base to provide basic services. The city/county government is totally dysfunctional. Lake Champlain is very polluted with no plan to clean it up. Taxes rise every year and will continue to do so. Jobs are mostly low paying service/retail and the rental units are in shambles. After 33 years there take my advice and look elsewhere.
So Plattsburgh is facing the same challenges as most of the US and Canada. Look elsewhere? Like Europe?
