Unfortunately, but hopefully given the low electric costs(Rouses Point gets its electric via NYPA) and its proximity to Montreal(only 45 miles away), it can attract another company. Perhaps a Canadian based company could consider the site.
Are there many Canadian based businesses with offices in upstate NY? What would attract Canadian businesses to open up shop across the border in NY versus VT?

Actually, just read earlier posts in this thread. There are quite a few in the Plattsburgh area.
I don’t know if VT would be any better, but it may also come down to where you look within states as well. Plattsburgh is closer to Montreal than Burlington VT is and has the space at the former Plattsburgh AFB, the former county airport and has lower electric rates in Rouses Point and the city of Plattsburgh due to getting it from NYPA.
We were visiting the University of Vermont for my 17yo daughter for their nursing program. We swung back home to visit SUNY Plattsburgh and we couldn't get my daughter out of the car to even walk around. We live in a SUNY town, New Paltz, and Plattsburgh college is a dump and that is being generous.

I went to school in Upstate NY, if not quite as far up as Plattsburg. That was cold enough. Global warming would have to get really bad before I'd consider move up to Plattsburg.
I want to tack on to this thread in case any one in the future is considering Plattsburgh and wants an honest review. I've lived in Plattsburgh for 8 years now.
Quite honestly, it's a dump. The airport does have nonstop flights to Florida, and they're adding a new daily flight to DC/Dulles. Housing is fairly cheap, but the property/school taxes are crazy. Expect to pay around $6000-7000 a year in taxes in the cities (Plattsburgh, Rouses Point). The suburbs are cheaper (around $5000/year) but don't have cheap electricity. Also keep in mind this is for a standard ~$170,000 house; expect to pay even more if you want bigger.
The summer time is great, the lake is awesome. Unfortunately summer is extremely short. Winter starts around the final week of October and stick around until the last week of April. It's usually very windy during most of the winter months, which makes the real temperature way colder. It's also cloudy most of the year.
Do yourself a favor and come to Plattsburgh between November and April; do not come in the summer. Drive through downtown. Then cross the ferry and go to Burlington, and see the difference.
